Bachmann Calls on Obama to Cut Spending in Response to New CBO Deficit Numbers

After last Wednesday’s release of historic deficit numbers by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), I called on President Obama to take a new approach to federal spending.
Tuesday evening President Obama spoke to the nation in the State of the Union address where he pushed more spending even, as he called for the government to live within its means. However, hours after his speech we learned from the CBO, under President Obama the country is projected to reach a new record annual deficit ringing in at an astounding $1.5 trillion.
This outlook is simply unacceptable, not to mention unsustainable. It’s time for President Obama to agree to real steps to cut spending and reduce our deficit; steps like supporting a balanced budget amendment and cutting discretionary non-defense spending to 2006 levels.

Our president and most legislators in Washington can be compared to inept children who inherited a department store that their grandfather carefully setup. They don’t know how to manage it. They take what they want for themselves, they give deals to their friends, they set up new departments with things for which there is no market, they accept bad checks and credit cards, they don’t send out statements, and they try to restock the shelves with credit they don’t have. No wonder things are going so well in Washington (and in Minnesota).
Gordon, that is a great analogy!
